What better place is there to watch a black and white 1940’s film than the Liverpool Philharmonic? Welcomed by a live piano performance before the lights dim and the screen comes down everyone feels cosy and warm in this stunning hall.

Brief Encounter holds that timeless feel that lasts throughout the ages. Following the love story of two older characters, you cannot help but be entranced. It is refreshing to watch a black and white film in an where we all look constantly at bright screens.

Films at the Liverpool Philharmonic are a perfect way to relax, as you are also allowed to bring in your own drinks and snacks. By losing yourself in the different world of the 1940s, the film offers a lovely break from the fast-paced modern world.

The themes of the film are still relatable today and although it might not end the way some viewers would like, it only helps to push the impact of the story. I couldn’t recommend evenings at Liverpool Philharmonic enough, especially with the range of films they show.
