We all know university can be stressful and difficult at times, so it’s important to take a break to recuperate and recharge your batteries. Taking time to relax and switching of from studying is so important. There’s lots of amazing, cheap things you can do in Liverpool, especially for LJMU students. So we’ve put together a list of ways you can unwind!
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra have a variety of wonderful performances to showcase over the next coming week. Turangalîla promises to be an explosive symphony and a captivating piece of music. The piece runs for approximately 80 mins long and is being performed on the 25th January. This is then followed on by Eroica on the 9th Febuary which is a classical symphony created by Beethoven, one of his most celebrated symphonies. LJMU students can get 2 free tickets to both of these shows and many more for FREE. So sit back, relax and get lost in the music!

Central Library is undeniably a beautiful, relaxing place to visit. If you enjoy reading in particular, Central is a great place to relax, find a comfy chair and read to your hearts content. It’s also a nice place to visit to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You could also grab a coffee and a cake in the café on the ground floor and take some time for yourself. I recommend venturing into the Picton Room to see the amazing architecture it has to offer. Also, if you’re a Harry Potter fan like myself there is a free exhibition on right now at the library until the 4th Feb! Definitely not one to be missed!
Head on over to Lifestyles for a relaxing yoga session! Yoga is a great way to de-stress, increase flexibility and improve your posture. Millennium Lifestyles is one of 7 gyms you can access for free and the closest gym to the city centre. They offer yoga classes that students can access every Monday at 1pm-1:45pm and Saturday 1pm-2pm. So save your pennies and if you haven’t done it before, try something new!
Another great way to relax is by swimming. With your free gym membership you can visit the Olympic pool size Aquatics Centre in Allerton for FREE! Alternatively, if you don’t want to travel outside of town, we’ve got you covered. The Adelphi hotel has a pool you can access for just £4 and also a sauna and steam room! You can relax right on your doorstep!
Keep it simple and go for a walk. Get a change of scenery and some fresh air, you’ be surprised at the difference it can make. The Baltic Triangle has some unique and funky buildings that will grab your attention. Try 24 Kitchen Street or Constellations which has a lovely interior design. Also, if you haven’t yet taken a picture with the liver bird wings on Jamaica Street where have you been?
