We know, we know… it’s still November! But with term-end quickly approaching, we want to make sure you get into the Christmas spirit and make the most of all your Christmas offers. So without further ado, here is your 2017 Countdown to Christmas!
The Royal Court are back this winter with another fantastic Christmas panto, and The Scouse Nativity promises to bring more barrels of laughs than ever before. A comical re-telling of the traditional story of Christmas with a lovely Liverpool twist, this show is selling out fast, so get your £5 LJMU tickets asap! The free Monday night tickets have sadly already sold out.
Kicking off the Christmas season, Open Culture’s Winter Arts Market is the perfect place to make a start on your Christmas shopping. With over 200 arts and crafts stalls, plus vintage and food fairs downstairs, it could be the perfect day out to get you feeling festive or provide some decoration inspo!
Swing on into the Christmas season with the gorgeous vocals of Clare Teal and the big band sound of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra! Recreating classics like ‘Singin’ In The Rain’ and ‘Feeling Good’, the signature sounds of a bygone era could be a perfect early Christmas present for you to take a parent or friend; not to mention one that’s easy on the purse strings.
Liverpool’s favourite rock ‘n’ roll pantomime is back at the Everyman for another year and WE COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. This year they bring us The Little Mermaid, and it promises to be as clam-packed full of songs, dances and laughs as always! As a Christmas treat, your Student Opportunities Team will be running a City Social to see the brilliance unfold on Tuesday 5th December at 1:30pm; this means FREE tickets for one of Liverpool’s most popular shows so reserve your plaice quick if you want to come along!
Liverpool SU: Home Alone in the Dome

Join your Liverpool Students’ Union and Independent Liverpool for a screening of the Christmas classic ‘Home Alone’ in a unique cinema setting. With fairy lights, mulled wine and a Christmas jumper competition, you’ll leave this event with all the warm, fuzzy, festive feels!

If you feel like to need even more Home Alone in your life after the LSU film screening, why not head down to Ghetto Golf to check out their pop-up bar. Tickets include a free drink, a Christmas party pack and loads of live music at the venue, which has been transformed into the perfect Christmas living room – ideal for recreating some of your favourite scenes!
It might not be the most Christmassy Christmas show ever, but the Playhouse’s Baskerville looks set to bring immense talent, mysterious happenings and a hilarious night out for all the family/flatmates! A take on the classic novel The Hound of the Baskervilles, this play sees 5 actors bringing 42 vivid characters to life. You can also join other students and your Student Opps Team for a City Social on Monday 11th December where we will be taking part in a mystery event before watching the show – tickets are limited for get in quick.
Bombed Out Church Christmas Market

Where: St. Luke’s Church, Berry Street

Where better for a Christmas Market than the beautiful Bombed Out Church?! The fantastic space will be full of local Liverpool creatives selling their craft, plus there’s a chance for you to bring your own clothes, gifts, toiletries, food and more for the amazing ‘Shoebox Full of Love’ for the homeless and less fortunate this Christmas. We’d recommend a visit to the fabulous Fudgin stall; you can pick up some tasty treats which will make perfect prezzies for friends and family!

A huge room full of people coming together to sing-along to Disney family favourite ‘Frozen’ whilst raising money for a fantastic charity for the homeless – can you BE anymore full of festive cheer? All together now… “Let it goooo, let it gooooooooooo…!”
Christmas Shopping Down at the Docks

How much: How much is in the bank?!
Struggling to think of interesting Christmas gifts? Look no further than the Albert Dock. Other than getting you completely in the Christmas spirit with all the festive decorations, they’ve got some weird and wonderful shops down there which you be sure to find any difficult Christmas prezzies in. The Tate Liverpool gift shop is a fab place for unique prezzies such as custom prints, jewellery and interior decorations, and with 10% off for LJMU students you might even save yourself some pennies.
Another must visit over the Christmas season is the Liverpool Philharmonic. There are Christmas events aplenty, but perhaps none lovelier than this annual family favourite! Join Santa and his friends from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Children’s Choir for a sing-along sesh like no other – all the classics but the louder the better! All LJMU students are entitled to two free tickets for the 11:30am event on Saturday 16th December, so bring along a son, daughter, niece, nephew, brother or sister and have a jolly good time.
The Liverpool Cathedral is beautiful at all times, but at Christmas it is something else. Throughout December, you are invited to partake in an array of glorious concerts performed by numerous schools, colleges and choir groups across Liverpool. You could even make a day of it and use your free tower trip pass before one of the concerts and see the city sights and lights twinkle from above. Best get stretching your vocal chords!
