6 Ways to Celebrate the End of Exams

They’re done, dusted and don’t need to be thought about ever again (… or at least not until results day). With the assessment period fiiiinally over, it’s time to officially welcome the summer and enjoy living in this lovely city. So whether its your 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th*, make sure this uni year goes out with a bang and celebrate the end of your exams with any of these fabulous free or discounted events!

1. Watch a film at the Liverpool Philharmonic:
More than just your normal night at the cinema, going to see a film at the Liverpool Philharmonic is an unforgettable experience. Some of the best films of 2017 are showing at the Phil over the next couple of months, and LJMU students can see them for free.  Throughout the rest of the summer you can see Lion (starring Dev Patel) on Tuesday 7th June, and Their Finest (with Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy) on Tuesday 5th July.

2. Sound City:
Liverpool’s biggest indie festival is back and in its 10th year, so this weekend is set to be electric! Taking place on Saturday (27th May) and Sunday (28th May) of this bank holiday weekend, the festival is a great place to let your hair down and celebrate the freedom of summer. Even better, LJMU students can get 10% off day or weekend passes through this link. We’re also running a competition on our social media this week to win £100 in food & drinks vouchers to be used at the festival… let the celebrations commence!

3. Make a night (or two) of it at the Everyman:
The final instalment from the Everyman Repertory Company begins on Saturday and what better way to end than with a gritty & modern take on Shakespeare’s classic Romeo & Juliet. Tickets are just £5 for LJMU students and with 10% off food & drink from the Everyman Café and Bistro why not make a night of it? If the theatre doesn’t take your fancy, Liverpool Jazz Club will be returning to the Bistro on Wednesday 7th June, giving you the chance to shake out that stress and swing your way into the summer!

4. Suspended Time by GroupeF:
As part of the city’s Sgt. Pepper at 50 event taking place over the summer, GroupeF are bringing a fantastic light show to Camp Hill in Woolton on Thursday 1st June… and it’s free! Inspired by The Beatles’ ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’, the company will use fire, street theatre, light and pyrotechnics to bring the area to life. It sounds set to be a magical night of madness, and one people will talking about for ages!

5. Saturday Night with the Philharmonic Orchestra:
Taking place in the glorious Metropolitan Cathedral on Mount Pleasant on Saturday 10th June, the Liverpool Philharmonic present Gloria!; an evening of stunning music in celebration of the cathedral’s 50th anniversary. The Orchestra will be joined by both the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Cathedral choirs in an evening which promises to raise the roof! Tickets, usually £25, are free for LJMU students and will probably be snapped up quickly; get yours quick to avoid disappointment.

6. Africa Oye:
The UK’s largest free celebration of African music returns to Sefton Park on the 17th & 18th June. If you haven’t been before, you need to make it a priority this year! Led by an itinerary of incredible live music, the festival also boasts music & dance workshops, craft & clothing stalls, and an incredible representation of food & drink from across the continent. Sit off in the sun (hopefully) and enjoy a real sense of Liverpool community.
